LAWS of cricket was born in the year 1788. This game has 4 main LAWS covering the players, the umpires and the scorers.

  1. The players: A cricket team consists of 11 players, including a captain. Outside of official competitions, teams can agree to play more than eleven-a-side, though no more than eleven players may field.
  2. Substitutes: Here, a substitute is allowed to field or run between the wickets for any player who may during the match be incapacitated from illness or injury, but not for any other reason, without the consent of opposing Captain; no Substitute shall be allowed to bat or to bowl.
Consent as to the person to act as substitute in the field shall be obtained from the opposing Captain, who may indicate positions in which the Substitute shall not field.
  3. The umpires: There are a total of 2 umpires, who apply the LAWS, make all necessary decisions, and relay the decisions to the scorers. While not required under the laws of cricket, in higher level cricket a third umpire (located off the ground and available to assist the on-field umpires) may be used under the specific playing conditions of a particular match or tournament.
  4. The scorers: All runs scored is recorded by Scorers appointed for the purpose; the Scorers accept and acknowledge all instructions, signals that Umpires give.
